Students Occupy Tolman Hall @ UC Berkeley!

After a noon rally and a march through campus, around 50 students are occupying Tolman Hall, which is one of many buildings across the UC system deemed unsafe. As a result, the UCB administration shut down 13 of its classrooms, claiming that repairs to bring the building to safe levels are postponed because of the “financial crisis.” We call bullshit. The “financial crisis” doesn’t seem to stop the UC system from giving its highest paid executives millions of dollars in raises and invest in non-educational multi-million dollar projects.

The students, teachers, workers, and community members are occupying Tolman Hall to reclaim space and open it. They are not simply making demands, but are occupying the building to create a center for organizing and resistance, one that is truly public and accessible.
