DHARAN: After their alleged demand for donation of Rs 12 lakh had no effect on the college management, activists of the ANNISU-R, the UCPN-Maoist-aligned student union, vandalised the Dharan-based Sunsari Technical College today.
According to Lekhiraj Limbu, the college management committee chairman, a group of six activists, including ANNISU-R central committee member Madan Chudal and Sunsari secretary CP Bajgain, vandalised the college after the college administration refused to pay them Rs 12 lakh as donation.
Limbu lamented that the police came only one-and-a-half hours after the incident though the college had informed the police administration soon after the incident.
Sunita Neupane, the college director, said the Maoist student union has also threatened to take what she called ‘physical action’ against the management committee members, lecturers and the staff if they did not pay the demanded sum.
In a press release, Limbu has condemned the vandalism and urged the authorities to create a peaceful academic environment, while the college administration has lodged a complaint against Chudal and Bajgain at the Dharan Area Police Office.
Meanwhile, Chudal said they vandalised the college as a warning after the college administration, ignoring their demand for talks on internal problems, made plans to hire goons to attack them. He claimed that the student organisation had never demanded donation from the college.
